Portugal Secures World Cup Spot with 9-1 Victory Over Armenia Despite Ronaldo's Absence

Portugal achieved a remarkable 9-1 victory against Armenia in the final match of the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in North America.

Despite the absence of star player Cristiano Ronaldo due to suspension, Bruno Fernandes excelled by scoring three goals, including two from penalties. João Neves also made a significant impact, netting three goals, showcasing the strength of Portugal's emerging talent in Ronaldo's absence.

The match, held at the "Dragão" Stadium in Porto, saw Portugal dominate from the outset. Renato Veiga opened the scoring in the 7th minute, followed by Gonçalo Ramos in the 28th minute. Neves, Fernandes, and Conceição also added to the tally, while Eduard Spertsyan scored Armenia's lone goal in the 18th minute.

Ronaldo's absence was due to a red card received in the previous match against Ireland, marking the first time in his international career, spanning 226 matches, that he has been sent off.

This victory propelled Portugal to the top of Group Six, securing their qualification for the World Cup for the ninth time in history.
