Zootopia 2 Sets Record as Highest-Grossing Foreign Film in China

The highly anticipated animated feature "Zootopia 2", produced by Walt Disney, has achieved a significant milestone at the Chinese box office, now holding the title of the highest-grossing foreign film in China's cinematic history. This surpasses the previous record set by the superhero film "Avengers: Endgame".
As reported by the platform Maoyan, Zootopia 2 has generated approximately 4.251 billion yuan (around 606 million dollars) as of Tuesday morning, accounting for nearly 36% of its total global earnings, which notably exceeds its revenue in North America, according to the Xinhua news agency.
This accomplishment comes at a time when China's box office revenues for the year 2025 are projected to exceed 50 billion yuan (approximately 7.08 billion dollars), as announced by the National Film Administration of China in mid-December.
The data indicates that local films contributed the majority of these revenues, totaling 40.952 billion yuan, which represents 81.9% of the overall earnings, with 1.194 billion tickets sold in Chinese cinemas.
This achievement underscores the immense popularity of the Zootopia franchise among Chinese audiences and highlights the strength of the U.S. animation industry in global markets, particularly in Asia's largest film market.
