Egyptian Authorities Shut Down Weight Loss Center Operated by Unqualified Individual

In a significant operation against unauthorized medical facilities, health authorities in Dakahlia have uncovered a weight loss and therapeutic nutrition center run by an unqualified individual. The director, who holds a degree in agriculture, was found to be operating illegally in the city of Dekernes while falsely presenting herself as a medical doctor.
The inspection campaign, conducted by the Dakahlia Health Directorate, also targeted two addiction treatment and mental health centers in Mansura and Talka. This effort involved inspectors from the Drug Authority and representatives from both the Regional and National Mental Health Councils, leading to the documentation of violations and legal actions against offenders.
Dr. Sayed Farouk, deputy director of therapeutic medicine, confirmed that intensive and surprise inspections of private medical facilities will continue, stressing that no practices threatening public health will be tolerated.
Investigations have revealed a troubling trend where graduates from agriculture, science, and physical education programs claim expertise in nutrition. These individuals have been found to introduce large quantities of unverified medications and supplements into their facilities, resulting in serious health issues, including kidney failure and liver cirrhosis among some victims.
As part of government efforts, the Ministry of Health is collaborating with the House of Representatives to amend medical practice laws, aiming to impose stricter penalties for impersonating a doctor, which could include severe prison sentences and hefty fines. This initiative seeks to safeguard citizens from illegal medical practices.
