The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) issued a warning on Monday regarding the risks of detention or seizure faced by commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, amid rising security tensions in the region.
In an official navigation alert, MARAD noted that Iran has attempted in several incidents to force commercial ships into its territorial waters, with the most recent attempt occurring on February 3.
MARAD is currently conducting an ongoing assessment of maritime security conditions to safeguard the freedom of navigation and the safety of U.S. and international vessels. The agency urged shipping companies and mariners to exercise heightened caution and adhere to safety guidelines while transiting these critical waterways.
