Trump Proposes Naming Rights for Major Infrastructure in Exchange for Funding

In a controversial proposal, U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested releasing federal funds for infrastructure projects in exchange for naming New York's "Penn Station" and "Washington Dulles International Airport" after himself. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has dismissed the offer, characterizing it as "extortion."
Trump, who has a history of branding properties with his name, is attempting to align his identity with state institutions, challenging the customary practices that typically prevent such politicization of names until after a president's term or death.
In December, the Kennedy Center board, appointed by Trump, voted to rename the venue honoring late President John F. Kennedy to the "Trump_KennedyCenter." Recently, the name Trump was also added to the "Peace Institute" in Washington, D.C., as sanctioned by the State Department.
Furthering his ambitions, Trump has proposed the construction of an "Independence Arch" akin to Paris's "Arc de Triomphe" and has initiated plans for a new concert hall at the White House, which would necessitate the demolition of the east wing.
According to reports from networks like CNN and NBC, Trump is targeting these major infrastructure sites and has offered to allocate $16billion in previously suspended funding for a project linking New York and New Jersey, contingent on Schumer's agreement to the name changes. Schumer, however, has firmly rejected this proposal.
In addition, Trump has launched a new government initiative named "Trump RX" aimed at providing low-cost medical drugs, further extending his influence over public projects.
New York Congressman Jerry Nadler has condemned these actions as "clear political extortion," asserting that such behavior is without precedent in U.S. history.
Trump has acknowledged that his desire to associate his name with public institutions is also motivated by his ambitions for the upcoming elections, reflecting his complex and often controversial persona.
