French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated on Friday that Israel should withdraw from the territories it occupies in Lebanon. He also highlighted the necessity for Lebanon to focus on restricting weapons to state institutions.
During his official visit to Lebanon, Barrot emphasized the unique opportunity to bolster stability in the country. He urged all factions to act responsibly and ensure that no Lebanese group is marginalized in addressing current challenges.
Barrot underscored the importance of enhancing the Lebanese army's capabilities, particularly before the conclusion of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission, and stressed the need to prevent any escalation in the region.
On the regional front, Barrot remarked that Iran and its allied groups must show restraint to maintain stability in Lebanon and the broader region. He noted that Paris is collaborating with Washington to oversee the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.
His discussions in Beirut also focused on the critical need for rebuilding Lebanon and continuing efforts to confine weapons to the state to achieve comprehensive security.
