The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of more than 6,000 bags of M&M's candy due to a labeling mistake that could endanger individuals with food allergies.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the packaging lacked essential allergen warnings.
Beacon Promotions, the company responsible for repackaging the candy, did not include information about allergenic ingredients such as milk, soy, and peanuts.

Recall Includes Promotional Products

The recall specifically affects 1.3-ounce bags of both peanut and classic M&M's, which were prepared for promotional purposes and were not intended for retail sale. These products were distributed across approximately 20 states, including California, Texas, Florida, and New York.

Identifying Affected Products

Consumers can identify the recalled peanut M&M's by the label stating "Make Your Mark" along with batch code M1823200 and an expiration date of April 30, 2026. The classic M&M's are packaged with company logos from organizations such as Subaru, Adobe, Xfinity, and Morgan Stanley, and specific batch codes are detailed in the official recall notice.

Health Risk Classification

The recall process began on January 26, with the FDA categorizing the product as category two on February 4. This classification indicates a potential for temporary or treatable health issues, with a minimal risk of serious complications.

Potential Health Risks

Health officials have cautioned that consuming these candies may lead to severe allergic reactions, including rashes, swelling, and breathing difficulties, which can escalate to life-threatening anaphylaxis, particularly for those allergic to peanuts, milk, or soy.

Disposal Instructions

Authorities recommend that individuals with these allergies refrain from consuming the candy and dispose of it immediately if they have it in their possession. Beacon Promotions, located in Minnesota, specializes in creating promotional items featuring company logos, and the affected products were distributed to various major corporations and universities across the U.S.
