The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has confirmed that the European Union will include 43 additional ships in its sanctions list, raising the total number of sanctioned vessels to 640.
Focus on Key Economic Sectors
Von der Leyen stated that the latest sanctions package targets crucial areas of the Russian economy, such as energy, financial services, and trade, with the goal of intensifying economic and political pressure on Moscow.
New Import and Export Limitations
According to the Commission's official announcement, the new sanctions package prohibits imports of metals, chemical products, and essential minerals from Russia. It also tightens restrictions on European exports to Russia. The Commission has proposed a ban on goods and services valued at over 360 million euros, aiming to restrict Russia's capacity to fund and participate in international trade.
Ongoing EU Pressure Strategy
This initiative is part of a series of consecutive sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia, designed to elevate the economic and political costs associated with the ongoing conflict, reflecting the EU's sustained strategy of applying pressure through economic measures against Moscow.
