The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced the successful implementation of a security operation in the Sarmada area of Idlib countryside, which resulted in the seizure of a truck and a farm containing quantities of weapons and ammunition that were prepared for smuggling to groups described as "outside the law".
The operation came as part of the ministry's efforts to combat arms smuggling and track networks operating in border areas, as Sarmada is considered a sensitive crossing point due to its proximity to the Turkish border and the repeated recording of illegal activities there.
According to the official statement, the seizures included light and medium weapons and various ammunition, which were hidden inside the farm and in parts of the truck in a way aimed at camouflage and avoiding checkpoints.
The Syrian Interior Ministry confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify those involved in the operation and to determine the party that was to receive these weapons, amid indications of a connection to armed groups operating in areas outside state control.
This operation comes amid rising warnings of a resurgence of smuggling and arming activities in northern Syria, which threatens to destabilize security in the region and raises concerns about renewed armed clashes.
