U.S. Secretary of State Rubio Raises Concerns Over Settler Violence in West Bank

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has expressed concern that escalating violence by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank could jeopardize American efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza.

His comments come amid a recent surge in violence, which includes the burning of a mosque, multiple incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, and attacks on Palestinian properties and land.

Israeli officials have characterized this rise in violence as reaching "record levels" of what is referred to as "Jewish terrorism," a term denoting violent acts by settlers against Palestinians.

Rubio stated that the ongoing violence erodes trust in any potential security or political agreements in Gaza, complicating U.S. efforts to promote a lasting peace.

These statements arrive as international pressure mounts on Israel to address settler violence, with the European Union and the United Nations calling for accountability and an end to the impunity that exacerbates tensions in the West Bank.
