Colombia Halts Intelligence Sharing with U.S. Following Fisherman's Death

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has declared a suspension of intelligence sharing with the United States, citing recent military actions in the Caribbean that resulted in the death of a Colombian fisherman.
Petro specified that this decision entails ceasing cooperation in military intelligence and halting communications with U.S. security agencies. He stated that this suspension will remain in effect "as long as missile attacks on boats in the Caribbean continue."
The president emphasized that the campaign against drug trafficking must honor human rights and the dignity of local communities, accusing the U.S. of conducting an "extrajudicial assassination" that infringes upon Colombia's sovereignty.
This decision occurs amid rising tensions between Bogotá and Washington, with the U.S. accusing Petro’s administration of inadequately addressing drug trafficking networks and imposing punitive measures in recent months.
