Syrian Authorities Clarify Passport Validity and Apologize for Confusion

In response to significant public concern among Syrians both domestically and abroad, Colonel Walid Arabi, Assistant Director of the Syrian Immigration and Passports Department, provided an official clarification regarding passport issuance. He affirmed that obtaining a passport is a constitutional right protected by law, and the department is dedicated to serving all citizens without exception.
Colonel Arabi expressed regret for any confusion stemming from earlier communications, stating, "I apologize to our Syrian citizens abroad for any misunderstanding caused by previous statements. It was never our intention to offend, as many of these individuals are children of this homeland, forced to leave to escape the actions of the previous regime."
He detailed that ordinary citizens are eligible for passports valid for six years, while those undergoing security reviews will receive passports valid for two and a half years. He noted, "Once these procedures are completed, individuals can obtain a six-year passport without further issues."
