France issued a statement today, urging Israel to respect Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity after a military operation targeted the town of Beit Jinn, located in the western outskirts of Damascus. The operation reportedly resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals and left many others injured.

Jean Favre, the French chargé d'affaires in Syria, shared the country's position on the social media platform X, emphasizing the need to maintain stability in Syria and regional security in accordance with international law and the 1974 disengagement agreement.

Favre expressed deep concern over reports of civilian casualties during the military action, calling for an immediate cessation of activities that could further destabilize the region and escalate tensions.

He also encouraged all regional stakeholders to contribute to efforts aimed at restoring stability in Syria, allowing the country to play a crucial role in fostering peace and security for its citizens and the broader region.

On Friday, an Israeli military incursion into Beit Jinn led to clashes with local residents, resulting in injuries to six Israeli soldiers, including three officers. This was followed by significant aerial bombardment of the area, causing 13 fatalities, which included women and children, and injuring approximately 25 others.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the airstrikes, labeling them a "complete war crime" and urged the Security Council, United Nations, and Arab League to take swift action to halt these aggressions and uphold Syrian sovereignty.

Despite Syria's claims that it does not pose a threat to Israel, the Israeli military has continued limited incursions into Syrian territory and conducted airstrikes targeting military installations and weapon depots belonging to the Syrian army in recent months.

Beit Jinn, situated on the eastern slopes of Mount Sheikh and about ten kilometers from the border with the occupied Golan Heights, has recently experienced a series of attacks, including aerial bombardments and ground incursions.
