Telegram has initiated one of its most extensive content removal campaigns, deleting over 500,000 groups and channels in a single day.
According to data published on the app's official website, approximately 2,810,095 groups and channels have been removed since early November. On Thursday, November 13, alone, 519,645 groups and channels were deleted, marking the highest daily total since February, when 490,433 groups and channels were removed.
The statistics indicate that deletions have surpassed 34.9 million channels and groups since the beginning of 2025, including 207,772 linked to activities classified as terrorist.
Telegram stated that its monitoring system, which has been in place since 2015, utilizes a combination of user reports and machine learning technologies. This system was enhanced in early 2024 with advanced AI-driven tools to improve its ability to monitor violations.
Founded in 2013 by Pavel Durov, Telegram is recognized as one of the leading modern communication applications, offering text messaging, calls, and media sharing services. It currently boasts over one billion active users worldwide.
