Heavy Rainfall Causes Flooding in Iraq; Meteorological Authority Warns of Continued Instability

Weather Forecast for Coming Days
On Tuesday, the authority announced that Wednesday's weather will range from sunny to partly cloudy in central and southern regions, with persistent rain expected in the eastern parts. Conditions are expected to improve in the afternoon, although local flooding remains a possibility. High temperatures are projected to range from 12 degrees Celsius in Sulaymaniyah to 24 degrees Celsius in Basra.
According to the weather report, relative stability is anticipated for Thursday, with clear skies and some clouds in the central and southern regions, while isolated rain showers may occur in the north. Temperatures in the central and northern areas are expected to rise slightly.
On Friday, cloud cover will increase, accompanied by rain showers in the western parts of the center and north, while the south will remain clear, with a slight decrease in temperatures in the north.
Over the weekend, particularly on Saturday, the authority forecasts a more unsettled weather pattern with clouds and scattered rain affecting all provinces, alongside a drop in temperatures in the central and southern regions.
Flooding and Road Closures
Local sources have reported that recent heavy rainfall in northern and northeastern Iraq has led to flooding and water flow that inundated several roads and raised river levels. This has resulted in the closure of key routes, particularly the Kirkuk–Baghdad road in the Tuz Khurmatu area due to rising water levels.
