Imam Warns Against Suicide Attempts at Masjid al-Haram, Praises Security Efforts

Sheikh Abdulrahman al-Sudais, the Imam of the Grand Mosque and head of religious affairs at both the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, has issued a serious warning regarding suicide attempts from the upper levels of Masjid al-Haram. He stressed that such actions are considered suicide, which is religiously forbidden and contradicts Islamic teachings that prohibit taking one's own life and exposing oneself to danger.

His comments followed an incident where a security officer rescued a Pakistani pilgrim who attempted suicide within the sacred site. Al-Sudais underscored the importance of adhering to regulations and maintaining respect for the location, urging individuals to focus on prayer and obedience.

He pointed out that religious texts clearly prohibit suicide, citing verses from the Quran and Hadiths that affirm the sanctity of human life and the necessity of preserving it.

Al-Sudais also commended the vigilance of security forces and their ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of pilgrims, emphasizing that their commitment to duty reflects the honorable image of Saudi security personnel.

While suicide attempts at Masjid al-Haram are exceedingly rare, they attract significant media and social media attention due to the site's sanctity and its unique status among Muslims worldwide.
