With an investment of $400 billion.. "OpenAI" and its partners launch a new phase of "Stargate"

On Tuesday, "OpenAI", in partnership with both "Oracle" and Japan's "SoftBank", unveiled ambitious plans to establish five new data centers on U.S. soil, as part of the massive project known as "Stargate", which aims to build advanced infrastructure for artificial intelligence.

"OpenAI" announced that the partnership with "Oracle" will lead to the establishment of three new data centers in Shackelford County, Texas, Dona Ana County, New Mexico, and a third undisclosed location in the Midwest. Meanwhile, two additional facilities will be created in Lordstown, Ohio, and Milam County, Texas, through "OpenAI"'s collaboration with "SoftBank" and one of its companies.

This expansion pushes the "Stargate" project a significant step forward. The company clarified that the new projects, including the expansion in "Abilene", Texas, under its partnership with "Oracle" and ongoing projects with "CoreWeave", will raise the total capacity of the project's data centers to about 7 gigawatts, with investments exceeding $400 billion over the next three years. The project as a whole, valued at $500 billion, aims to generate a total power of 10 gigawatts.

Sam Altman, the CEO of "OpenAI", commented on the announcement saying: "Artificial intelligence can only fulfill its promises if we build the necessary computing capabilities to run it." AI is a top priority for both U.S. President Donald Trump and major tech companies, which are pouring billions of dollars into building the necessary infrastructure.

This announcement, which is expected to provide 25,000 direct jobs, came just one day after "NVIDIA" announced that it would invest up to $100 billion in "OpenAI" and supply it with custom chips for data centers. President Trump had hosted several top tech CEOs last January to launch the private sector-led initiative.

According to informed sources, "OpenAI" and its partners plan to use debt-based financing to lease the chips for the "Stargate" project. "OpenAI" and its strategic ally "Microsoft" are among the leading companies pouring billions of dollars into building data centers to operate generative AI services like "ChatGPT" and "Copilot".

The utmost importance of this technology for the Trump administration is due to the sensitivity of AI's role in sectors such as defense, alongside China's efforts to catch up in this field.
