The office of the Israeli president announced on Sunday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has submitted an official request for a pardon to President Isaac Herzog. This action is regarded as exceptional and carries considerable political and legal ramifications.

The request was delivered to the legal department of the presidential office via Netanyahu's attorney, Amit Hadad, and will be processed in accordance with the country's constitutional and legal frameworks.

Following the established protocol, the request will be sent to the pardon department within the Ministry of Justice. There, relevant legal opinions will be gathered from various authorities before being forwarded to the legal advisor at the president's office for further assessment. This evaluation will ultimately be presented to President Herzog for a final decision.

The president's office stated that the nature of this request is considered "exceptional," highlighting the seriousness and responsibility with which it will be addressed.

The pardon request includes two primary documents: a comprehensive legal letter signed by Amit Hadad and an official letter signed by Prime Minister Netanyahu. Due to the sensitive nature of the request and its public implications, the decision was made to release these documents for public scrutiny.
