Authors File Lawsuit Against "Apple" for Using Pirated Books to Develop Its Artificial Intelligence

Apple is facing a new lawsuit in the United States after two neuroscientists accused it of using thousands of copyrighted books to train its artificial intelligence system known as "Apple Intelligence".

According to the lawsuit filed in a federal court in California, the plaintiffs Stephen McNick and Susana Martinez-Conde from the "Downstate Medical University" in New York stated that the company utilized what they called "shadow libraries" containing pirated copies of academic and literary books without the permission of their owners.

The case comes just one month after a similar lawsuit was filed by several authors against Apple for the same accusation, amid increasing complaints against major tech companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Meta regarding the use of copyrighted content to train AI systems.

It is noted that "Apple Intelligence" represents a new system of smart features integrated into iPhones and iPads, relying on artificial intelligence to analyze language and personalize the user experience.
