Egypt Concludes Lengthy Parliamentary Elections with 32.41% Voter Turnout

A press conference was held to reveal the official results of the runoff elections in 27 out of 30 districts, where results had been previously annulled by the Supreme Administrative Court, following re-elections in 19 districts.
Voter Participation and Statistics
Judge Hazem Badawy, the head of the authority, reported that the total number of registered voters was 69,891,913, with 22,657,211 casting their ballots, resulting in a participation rate of 32.41%.
Badawy noted that the number of valid votes exceeded 21 million, while invalid votes totaled more than 1.5 million, indicating citizens' commitment to exercising their constitutional right to select their representatives in the House of Representatives.
Significant and Monitored Elections
The head of the authority characterized these elections as the longest and most scrutinized in the history of Egyptian parliamentary politics, attracting considerable public interest.
These elections followed landmark judicial rulings on November 29, which annulled elections in 30 districts, prompting re-elections, while results in 19 additional districts were also annulled at the request of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who urged the authority to ensure a comprehensive review and annul any questionable results to reflect the true will of voters.
Presidential Call for Transparency
Sisi expressed on social media:
"I urge the esteemed Election Authority to conduct a meticulous review of events and appeals, and to make decisions that honor the true will of the voters and enhance the authority's transparency in its processes."
He emphasized that the authority should not hesitate to make appropriate decisions regarding complete or partial annulments of the electoral phase, with special elections to follow, ensuring genuine representation of the populace in parliament.
