Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara confirmed to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin today, Wednesday, at the Kremlin, his country's commitment to all previous agreements signed between the two countries, emphasizing Damascus's desire to redefine and reorganize bilateral relations in line with current changes.

During the meeting, Al-Shara said: "We respect all previous agreements between our countries, and we seek to enhance them in a way that serves the interests of the Syrian and Russian peoples," pointing out that the upcoming phase requires an update in the mechanisms of political and economic cooperation between the two sides.

Putin: Our relations have been historical and friendly for decades

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the relations between Russia and Syria have a special character stemming from decades of close cooperation, affirming that Moscow views Damascus as a strategic partner in the region.

Putin said: "The relations between our countries have always been very friendly, and we value the continued communication and joint coordination on various issues."

Praise for the recent Syrian elections

Putin also described the parliamentary elections in Syria as a "great success," considering them an important step towards strengthening ties between various political forces, and confirming Damascus's commitment to the path of political reform.
