DR Congo and March 23 Movement Sign Peace Framework Agreement in Doha

The Democratic Republic of the Congo and the March 23 Movement, a rebel group, have formalized a framework agreement in Doha, Qatar, intended to halt the persistent violence in the eastern region of the country. This agreement marks a significant step forward in the long-stalled peace process.
The signing ceremony included representatives from both parties, following a declaration of principles established last July in Doha, which called for a ceasefire and emphasized the importance of state sovereignty across the nation.
The declaration commits both sides to uphold their agreements in pursuit of a lasting ceasefire and outlines plans to initiate formal negotiations aimed at crafting a comprehensive peace agreement to resolve the ongoing crisis.
Despite this progress, the situation in eastern Congo remains precarious, with ongoing tensions that could undermine the fragile peace. There are hopes that this framework agreement will pave the way for a more stable political future.
