Tea or Coffee? Discover which one supports your heart and mind more

Both coffee and tea are among the most consumed beverages worldwide, not only for their unique taste but also for their natural compounds that may help prevent chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes.

But the question that occupies many is: Which is the better choice for your health?

* Common Benefits

Studies have shown that moderate and regular consumption of coffee or tea may prolong life and reduce the risk of early death.

Both beverages are rich in antioxidants and plant compounds that fight inflammation, support immunity, and lower the risk of heart and brain diseases, according to the scientific journal Health.

In a study published in 2023, it was found that individuals who drank two cups of coffee and two cups of tea daily were 21% less likely to die from cancer, while those who consumed three cups of tea and four cups of coffee had a 24% reduced risk.

* Coffee: Instant Energy and Liver Protection

A cup of coffee contains about 92 milligrams of caffeine, which is nearly double that found in tea, giving coffee a higher ability to improve concentration, athletic performance, and increase energy and reaction time.

Research has also shown that coffee protects against liver diseases such as cirrhosis and fatty liver, and may reduce the risk of liver cancer by up to 30%.

* Tea: Mental Clarity and Mental Health

Tea, especially green tea, is distinguished by its content of L_Theanine, an amino acid that reduces stress and anxiety and improves mood.

A recent medical review showed that individuals who drink tea regularly have a 34% lower risk of developing depression.

Green tea also helps lower harmful cholesterol (LDL), promoting heart and artery health.

* Caution Against Overconsumption

Despite their benefits, excessive caffeine intake can lead to health problems such as anxiety, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, headaches or insomnia, and complications during pregnancy.

Experts recommend that daily caffeine intake should not exceed 400 milligrams for adults (about 4 cups of coffee or 8 cups of black tea), and 200 milligrams for pregnant women.

* Balance is Key

While coffee provides an instant energy boost and supports liver health,

tea offers mental relaxation and heart protection.

The result: Moderation in consuming both beverages is the optimal choice, as coffee and tea together can form an ideal mix for a longer life and better health.
