Mahmoud Hijazi Addresses Harassment Allegations on Instagram
In his initial public response to allegations of harassment and sexual assault, artist Mahmoud Hijazi made a statement on Instagram that referenced a Quranic verse, aiming to clarify his stance on the accusations against him.
In his Instagram story, Hijazi stated:
"And they plot, and Allah plots; and Allah is the best of plotters. The scheming of humans and their plots, no matter how great, face the planning of Allah Almighty, which nullifies them and turns them into benefit." His comments appear to address the allegations directed at him.
Hijazi was arrested by Egyptian security forces following accusations of harassment and sexual assault involving a woman of foreign nationality with Egyptian roots, which reportedly occurred in a hotel in Cairo.
Authorities are currently investigating the complaint to ascertain the validity of the claims, while Hijazi has firmly denied all allegations.
In a related matter, Hijazi had previously been released on bail of 10,000 Egyptian pounds concerning a separate case involving allegations of domestic violence against his wife. Investigators have heard her testimony, in which she accused him of physical assault and verbal abuse, resulting in various injuries.
