Hours before the anticipated clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona, the president of the Catalan club, Joan Laporta, made provocative statements that ignited the atmosphere of the upcoming "classic" tomorrow, Sunday, at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the tenth round of the Spanish football league.
Direct accusations against the royal club
Laporta said in statements reported by Spanish media: "Real Madrid always creates an inappropriate atmosphere around the refereeing crew. Through what their official television does, they prepare the referees, and this is a strategy for victory that should not exist."
He added: "They cannot claim that the referees are unfair to them or favor Barcelona. We do not play the victim role, and we will go to the Bernabéu with the aim of winning again."
Rising tension before the summit
These statements come amid rising tension between Laporta and Florentino Pérez, the president of Real Madrid, for months, over refereeing issues and broadcasting rights.
It is also expected that the match will be highly charged, especially since Real Madrid fans are looking for revenge after their team lost four consecutive matches against Barcelona last season.
