Kuwait Launches Successful Debt Relief Campaign for Citizens

Kuwait's third national campaign aimed at settling citizens' debts has reported significant success, with total debts settled reaching over 15 million Kuwaiti Dinars, benefiting 2,635 individuals, as stated by the Kuwait News Agency.
Officials noted that this campaign produced results that exceeded those of the previous two initiatives, both in the total amount of debt settled and the number of cases resolved.
This effort led to the closure of 4,345 executive files at the Ministry of Justice, managed by the General Administration of Execution, thereby reducing financial and legal pressures on many Kuwaiti families and aiding in the restoration of their social and psychological well-being.
The disbursement process was conducted in six distinct installments, targeting debts up to 16,500 Dinars, with amounts varying between 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, and 16,500 Dinars. This was based on fair and transparent eligibility criteria to ensure that assistance was directed to those in genuine need.
Distribution of cases across the six installments was as follows:
425 in the first, 767 in the second, 620 in the third, 480 in the fourth, 286 in the fifth, and 57 in the sixth. These cases were elevated from the Supreme Committee for Settling Debts of Debtors to the General Administration of Execution to finalize the disbursement procedures in accordance with legal standards.
Furthermore, the campaign received over 9,000 applications for assistance, excluding those already considered in prior campaigns, as well as applications related to debts acknowledged by telecommunications companies or owed to government entities. This approach ensured that support was directed to actual beneficiaries while enhancing transparency and integrity.
The applications were reviewed by six technical and legal committees, which included representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the General Administration of Execution, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the General Secretariat of Awqaf, the Zakat House, and the Ministry of Social Affairs, ensuring effective governance and collaborative institutional efforts.
It is important to note that the Ministry of Social Affairs initiated this campaign last March in partnership with charitable organizations, following directives from Kuwaiti leadership to promote social solidarity and support for financially struggling citizens.
