Steps are accelerating around the world to limit minors' access to social media, amid growing concerns about its negative effects on mental health and behavioral development.
Australia and several European countries have begun implementing new measures to restrict teenagers' use of these platforms, while other countries are discussing similar legislative projects.

Facebook and TikTok Under Legal Pressure

Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are facing dozens of lawsuits in the United States, accusing them of "luring children and getting them addicted to the platforms," amid allegations that they exploit algorithmic design to attract young users and keep them connected for long periods.

Italy Facing “Child Addiction”

In Italy, prosecutors estimated that about 3 million out of 90 million accounts on these platforms belong to users under the age of 14, in clear violation of usage rules.
Experts warn that excessive use may lead to depression, eating disorders, sleep deprivation, and poor academic performance.

Collective Action from Affected Families

The Italian Parents Movement and a law firm based in Turin announced the preparation of an open class action lawsuit for parents who say their children have been harmed by social media use.
This action aims to pressure companies to tighten their policies regarding minors and hold them accountable for the psychological and social damages resulting from uncontrolled use.
