The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported on Saturday that the town of Kertala in South Kordofan, Sudan, experienced significant displacement, with 1,625 individuals compelled to leave their homes in a single day. This mass exodus is attributed to the deteriorating security situation and increasing violations associated with the Rapid Support Forces.
The IOM's statement highlighted that this recent surge in displacement underscores the dire humanitarian conditions in the area, where ongoing armed conflicts are heightening risks for civilians and worsening the crises related to food, shelter, and essential services.
The organization warns that continued violations could lead to further mass displacement and is urging the establishment of safe corridors for civilians, as well as the prompt delivery of humanitarian assistance to those affected.
