G7 Nations Seek UN Support for Gaza Peace Plan Implementation

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced that the G7 nations are actively seeking a mandate from the United Nations Security Council to expedite the implementation of a peace plan in the Gaza Strip.

This announcement was made during a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada. Wadephul explained that the objective of the mandate is to "disarm Hamas and establish an international security force to oversee the region."

He further noted that the foreign ministers discussed this matter during their opening session on Tuesday evening, emphasizing that they "agreed on the necessity of a Security Council mandate, which should be pursued urgently." Wadephul cautioned that "decisions cannot be imposed but must be the result of serious negotiations."

Wadephul highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating that "time is running out for everyone" and underscoring the need for an immediate security framework to maintain order in Gaza.

The G7 group comprises Germany, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
