Trump to Announce Global Peace Council for Gaza Next Week
U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to announce the formation of the "Peace Council for Gaza" next week, according to two American officials. The council, which Trump will chair, aims to bring together several world leaders as part of a broader initiative to end the ongoing conflict in the Palestinian territory.
The officials indicated that the establishment of the council will facilitate the transition to the second phase of an agreement designed to promote stability in Gaza, as reported by Axios.
Earlier this year, Trump mentioned that the names of the participating world leaders would be disclosed soon. Several leaders have already shown interest in joining the council, which is a component of the ceasefire plan negotiated between Israel and Hamas.
A U.S. report suggested that former international Middle East envoy Nikolai Mladenov may be appointed as the on-ground representative for the Peace Council, working in conjunction with a future technocratic Palestinian government.
The United Nations Security Council welcomed the establishment of the Peace Council in a resolution passed on November 17, 2025. The resolution describes the council as a transitional administrative entity with international legal status, responsible for setting guidelines and coordinating funding for Gaza's reconstruction.
The resolution garnered support from 13 member states, while Russia and China abstained from voting. Both Israel and Hamas have expressed opposition to certain elements of the proposed plan.
The initiative is based on a 20-point peace proposal developed by President Trump, which received endorsement from all parties during the Sharm El Sheikh summit in October 2025.
Countries including Turkey, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Indonesia have indicated their interest in joining the international stability force, though they have stressed the necessity of obtaining official authorization from the United Nations before their participation.
The Peace Council's primary responsibilities will include overseeing the Palestinian technocratic committee that manages public and municipal services in Gaza, as well as establishing the framework for reconstruction and managing the related funding.
