The coastal city of Safi, located approximately 300 kilometers south of Rabat, faced a humanitarian crisis on Sunday, December 14, 2025, when sudden flooding resulted in the deaths of 21 individuals and injuries to 32 others.
Local officials reported that intense thunderstorms triggered flash floods that overwhelmed the city in a matter of an hour, inundating streets and neighborhoods.
The floodwaters affected around 70 homes and businesses in the historic district, while the rushing torrents swept away approximately 10 vehicles and severely damaged critical roadways, disrupting traffic flow.
