Some may think that quitting smoking after many years is futile, but science says the opposite.
According to a recent study, the brain does not lose its ability to recover, even if you decide to quit cigarettes in your fifties or sixties.

The research conducted by University College London and published in The Lancet Healthy Longevity found that individuals who stopped smoking retained higher cognitive and mental abilities compared to those who continued smoking, meaning that the brain regains its activity as soon as the toxins stop reaching it.

Co-researcher Mikaela Bloomberg stated that the results give hope to millions of smokers around the world: "It is amazing to see that quitting smoking, even at advanced stages of life, helps maintain brain health. It is never too late to start changing."

Scientists suggest that the reason is that smoking weakens blood vessels and deprives brain cells of oxygen, as well as causing chronic inflammation that over time leads to memory and concentration decline and increases the risk of dementia.

The study included more than 4,700 people from various countries, and it was found that those who quit smoking showed significant improvement in thinking speed, memory, and attention after a period of cessation.
