Does "Chat GPT" Really Monitor You? An Expert Explains the Technical Truth

Videos and posts claiming that artificial intelligence tools, led by "Chat GPT", are capable of watching users or listening to them through the camera and microphone, even without turning them on, are spreading on social media.
However, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity expert Engineer Rami Al-Maligi completely denied these claims, confirming in his talk to Sky News Arabia that "Chat GPT does not have the authority to access the camera or microphone without the user's permission, nor does it collect any confidential personal data".

Al-Maligi explained that the danger lies only in the permissions that users grant to applications, pointing out the necessity of disabling them after use. He added: "Even in the Chat GPT application itself, OpenAI recommends revoking camera and microphone permissions after use to ensure maximum security".

The expert confirmed that the system does not rely on data collection or monitoring users, but only uses some simple information — such as name or interests — to personalize the conversation experience, with the option to disable this feature in the settings.

Al-Maligi noted that the prevailing impression among some that the tool "reads thoughts" or "spies" is due to its great ability to understand human language patterns and predict behavior based on extensive training data from the internet, not because of any actual monitoring.

He concluded by saying: "Artificial intelligence does not see you or hear you... but it knows how to mimic you in a smart way that makes some think otherwise".
