The recent "Clasico" match between Real Madrid and Barcelona witnessed a tragic incident, as Israeli fan Yigal Brodkin died while attending the game at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, after suffering a sudden heart attack following Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny's save of a penalty taken by Kylian Mbappé.
The Real Madrid Supporters Association in Israel issued a statement on Friday evening confirming Brodkin's death, noting that paramedics tried to save him in the stands, but their efforts were unsuccessful in keeping him alive.
His son wrote on social media: "After Mbappé missed the penalty, my father suffered a sudden heart attack, and the paramedics were unable to save him."
The match, which ended with Real Madrid winning 2-1, saw Mbappé and Bellingham score the goals for the royal team, and was crucial in the Spanish league standings, as Real Madrid pulled 5 points ahead of Barcelona after 10 rounds.
For its part, the Spanish website "Defensa Central" revealed that fans called for referee Soto Grado to stop the match after the incident, as is customary in other stadiums during medical emergencies, but it seems the referee did not respond to those calls.
