Brazil's Supreme Court Upholds 27-Year Sentence for Former President Bolsonaro

The Supreme Court of Brazil has confirmed its decision to reject an appeal from former President Jair Bolsonaro, who was sentenced to 27 years in prison for his involvement in a coup attempt. This ruling effectively removes his final legal avenues to evade punishment.
In a recent vote, the majority of the court's judges supported the dismissal of the appeal, with the official decision announced on Friday. The public prosecutor's office stated that the alleged conspiracy involved plans to assassinate current President Lula da Silva and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, although senior military officials did not endorse these actions.
A judicial source indicated that the court's ruling will be formally published on Monday. Following this, Bolsonaro's defense team will have five days to file a final petition, which is anticipated to be swiftly rejected by Justice de Moraes, thereby concluding the judicial process in this case.
