A video that circulated on social media in Egypt sparked widespread controversy after it documented scenes of a violent chase and gunfire between two cars in the style of action movies, on the Cairo – Ismailia desert road.

Details of the incident

The video showed two cars speeding in an exciting chase, before one person emerged from the window of one of the vehicles, wearing a mask and holding a machine gun, firing at the other car.
The scene, which seemed like it was taken from an action film, shocked and angered users, who demanded a swift intervention from security authorities.

Interior Ministry Response

After the video went viral, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced that it had successfully identified the individuals involved and apprehended the main suspect in the incident.
The ministry clarified in an official statement that investigations revealed the incident occurred on October 14, as the Abu Suwir police station in Ismailia received a report from the driver of a "pickup truck" who appeared in the video, stating that he was shot at by a person who tried to stop him to steal his car, due to financial disputes between them.

Arrest of the perpetrator and his confession

The statement added that the suspect, who was found to have a previous criminal record and resides in the jurisdiction of the Ismailia police station, was arrested with a firearm used in the incident.
The suspect confessed during the investigations to committing the crime due to financial disputes with the victim, confirming that the gunfire was an attempt to force him to stop.

Widespread reactions

The incident sparked significant interaction on social media, where users expressed their concern over the increasing manifestations of violence on the roads, while others emphasized the importance of swift security intervention and the apprehension of the perpetrators, which was indeed achieved within hours of the video's spread.
