A German woman returned a Greek artifact that she had seized more than fifty years ago, handing it over to the University of Münster, which in turn took the initiative to return it to ancient Olympia in Greece.
The university stated that this step came in the context of an increasing trend to return important artifacts to their countries of origin, after having remained outside their homeland for many years.
Athens has been seeking for some time to conclude bilateral agreements to return its artifacts away from complex legal pathways, while its main goal remains the recovery of the Parthenon marbles preserved in the British Museum since the nineteenth century.
