The Launch of Disappointment .. The film 'Tron: Ares' tops the American box office but the shine is dim!

Despite topping the American box office with revenues of $33.5 million, the new science fiction film 'Tron: Ares' produced by Disney fell short of expectations after a 15-year wait since the last installment of the series.

The film, starring Jared Leto, Greta Lee, and Jeff Bridges, received moderate positive reviews (3 stars out of 4 according to the Associated Press), but it failed to achieve the strong launch that the company had hoped for.

A Futuristic Story and Technological Conflict

The film's events take place in the near future, where two giant companies compete to develop a 3D laser printing technology that produces physical objects that last only 29 minutes before collapsing.

The work combines action and technological philosophy, evoking the atmosphere of the original installment released in 1982 and the spirit of the virtual 'Grid' that the series is famous for.

Disney Bets on the Global Market

According to Comscore, the production cost was about $150 million, slightly less than 'Tron: Legacy' (2010), which opened with $44 million and grossed over $400 million worldwide. Analysts believe that the weak domestic performance may be compensated by revenues from international markets, especially with weak competition in October, a month known in Hollywood as the 'bridge of seasons' between summer and the holidays.

Competitors with Modest Performance

In the following ranks, the film 'Ruffman' came in second with $8 million, followed by 'One Battle After Another' starring Leonardo DiCaprio with $6.6 million. The children's film 'Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie' ranked fourth with $3.3 million, while the faith-based drama 'Soul on Fire' rounded out the top five with $3 million.

A Quiet Box Office in October

Experts point out that the decline in cinema activity in October is normal, as this month is a transitional period between major release seasons, allowing festival films and independent works to emerge more clearly.
