Telegram Lanches Major Block Campaign, Removing Over 500,000 Groups in One Day

Telegram, the popular messaging application, has initiated one of the most extensive block campaigns in its history, removing over 500,000 groups and channels in just one day.
Data released on the app's official website indicates that approximately 2,810,095 groups and channels have been deleted since early November. On November 13 alone, a record 519,645 groups and channels were blocked, marking the highest daily total since February, when 490,433 were removed.
Statistics reveal that since the beginning of 2025, more than 34.9 million channels and groups have been eliminated, with 207,772 linked to activities classified as terrorist.
Telegram explained that its monitoring system combines user reports with machine learning technologies, a method in use since 2015. This system has been enhanced in early 2024 with advanced artificial intelligence tools to improve the detection of violating accounts.
Founded by Pavel Durov in 2013, Telegram is among the leading modern communication applications, offering text messaging, voice calls, and media sharing services. The platform currently boasts over one billion active users worldwide.
