Kuwait Launches Successful Debt Relief Campaign for Citizens

Kuwait's third national campaign aimed at relieving the debts of citizens has achieved remarkable success, settling debts totaling over 15 million Kuwaiti dinars and assisting 2,635 individuals, according to the Kuwait News Agency.
Officials noted that this campaign has outperformed the previous two in both the total amount raised and the number of cases resolved.
It resulted in the closure of 4,345 executive cases within the Ministry of Justice, significantly easing the financial and legal burdens faced by many Kuwaiti families and helping them regain social and psychological stability.
The payment process was conducted in six specific phases, addressing debts up to 16,500 dinars, with amounts ranging from 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, to 16,500 dinars, based on fair and transparent eligibility criteria to ensure assistance reached those in genuine need.
The distribution of cases across the six phases was as follows:
425 in the first phase, 767 in the second, 620 in the third, 480 in the fourth, 286 in the fifth, and 57 in the sixth. These were escalated by the high committee for debt relief to the general execution administration to complete the payment procedures in accordance with legal regulations.
Additionally, the number of applications submitted for the campaign exceeded 9,000, excluding cases already addressed in previous campaigns, as well as applications related to telecommunications debts or debts owed to government entities. This ensured that assistance was directed to the true beneficiaries, promoting integrity and transparency.
Applications were reviewed by six technical and legal committees, which included representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the general execution administration, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the General Secretariat of Awqaf, the Zakat House, and the Ministry of Social Affairs, to ensure governance and collaborative institutional work.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Social Affairs launched the campaign in March in collaboration with charitable organizations, in line with directives from Kuwaiti leadership to strengthen social solidarity and support citizens facing financial difficulties.
