Syrian Passport Authority Clarifies Validity Duration Following Controversy

Colonel Arabi told SANA news agency, "I would like to apologize to our fellow Syrians abroad for any confusion or misunderstanding caused by our previous clarification. It was never our intention to offend; they are children of this nation, many of whom were forced to flee to escape the crimes of the ousted regime."
He explained that passports are issued for a duration of six years to ordinary citizens, while those undergoing security procedures receive passports valid for two and a half years. He added, "Upon completion of these procedures, the individual is entitled to obtain a six-year passport without any obstacles."
The official assured that the administration is dedicated to serving Syrians both inside and outside the country, and that passport-related decisions are based on clear legal foundations and organizational procedures that take into account the specifics of each case.
This clarification comes in response to widespread public discussions in recent days about the validity period of passports and the issuance mechanism, prompting authorities to reaffirm citizens' rights and the administration's commitment to existing laws.
