Drone Strike in Kyiv Damages Qatari Embassy Amid Ongoing Russian Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported today that a Russian drone struck the Qatari embassy in Kyiv during a series of overnight attacks on Ukraine. The incident has caused considerable damage to the embassy and surrounding areas.
Zelensky noted on the messaging platform "Telegram" that Qatar is involved in mediating prisoner exchange discussions with Russia. He confirmed that the attacks led to the deaths of four individuals and damaged at least 20 residential buildings.
He stated: "There is a need for a clear response from the international community, particularly from the United States, as Russia is attentive to the signals it receives. Russia must face consequences each time it resumes its campaign of violence and destruction of infrastructure."
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that the Russian military launched 36 missiles and 242 drones overnight, including a hypersonic missile identified as "Orizhnick". Kyiv views this as a test for its allies' response capabilities.
The Ukrainian forces successfully intercepted 226 drones and 18 missiles using their air defense systems.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga remarked that the attack, occurring near the borders of the European Union and NATO, poses a significant threat to European security and tests the resilience of the transatlantic alliance.
Meanwhile, emergency and rescue teams are conducting relief operations in Kyiv and other affected regions, including Lviv, as they work to restore essential services and repair damaged infrastructure.
