U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced today, Saturday, that the United States stands in solidarity with the Iranian people amidst rising anti-government protests. This announcement comes as Iranian authorities have reportedly cut internet access and intensified efforts to suppress demonstrations, according to Reuters.
Rubio stated on the X platform:
“The United States supports the brave Iranian people.”

Internet Disruptions and Protest Crackdown

This U.S. position emerges during a period of significant unrest in Iran, with Western nations accusing the Iranian government of attempting to isolate protesters by disrupting communications and launching security operations to quell the ongoing demonstrations.

Trump Issues Strong Warning to Iranian Authorities

In a marked escalation of rhetoric, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iranian leaders on Friday, stating:
“You better not start shooting, because we will shoot back.”
This remark underscores a more aggressive stance by Washington towards developments within Iran and their broader regional consequences.

Iran's Response at the UN Security Council

In response, Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani accused the United States of exacerbating violence during protests, claiming that the U.S. is responsible for turning peaceful demonstrations into chaos. During a UN Security Council session, Iravani condemned what he termed the “illegal and irresponsible” actions of the U.S., alleging that Washington, in collaboration with Israel, is interfering in Iran’s domestic matters through threats and incitement of instability.
