Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan, announced on Friday that the assistance provided to survivors in El Fasher is significantly lacking, stressing that the humanitarian crisis is deteriorating due to ongoing mass displacement.
Nkweta-Salami pointed out that the United Nations lacks sufficient food supplies to meet the needs of those displaced, calling on the international community for immediate support.
She further explained that the UN's ability to respond to the crisis is severely constrained, with current funding covering only 28% of the required humanitarian needs. This shortfall poses a risk of worsening the situation if additional resources are not mobilized.
Her remarks come as the number of individuals fleeing El Fasher has surpassed 100,000 since late October, with a significant portion being women and children, according to UNICEF reports.
