Trump Addresses Health Concerns Amid Bruises on Hand

In response to growing speculation, Trump chose to address the matter directly, providing his perspective on the condition of his health.
Aspirin Use Cited as Cause
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the 79-year-old president explained that the bruises on his hand are a result of his daily aspirin regimen, which he takes to reduce blood thickness. He stated, “I don’t want thick blood flowing through my heart,” and dismissed any serious health concerns related to the marks. Trump also noted that one bruise was caused by a handshake with Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, where her ring made contact with his hand.
Clarification on Medical Tests
Trump defended his health status, asserting that he is in “excellent” condition and expressed frustration over the media's persistent focus on his health. He corrected a previous assertion regarding a medical test, clarifying that he underwent a CT scan, not an MRI, last October. His physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, confirmed that the scan was performed to assess the health of his heart and blood vessels, with no alarming findings reported.
Ongoing Speculation
Despite his reassurances, images of Trump continue to draw attention, as the bruises have sometimes appeared to be covered with makeup or bandages. Observers have also noted instances of swelling in his ankles. During public appearances, there have been moments where the president seemed to struggle to keep his eyes open, including a televised meeting in the Oval Office with health officials.
Addressing Sleep Rumors
Trump firmly rejected rumors that he had fallen asleep during official events, stating, “I have never been a fan of sleeping.” He explained that what may appear as napping is simply him taking moments to relax, adding, “Sometimes they take a picture of me while I’m blinking… I’m just closing my eyes, and that relaxes me.”
Public Image vs. Health Reality
Trump has consistently portrayed himself as an active and vigorous leader, engaging with the media, maintaining a strong social media presence, and even utilizing AI-generated images depicting him as a superhero. However, as he ages and with limited physical activity outside of golf, combined with his preference for fast food, questions about his health are likely to persist throughout his term, particularly as he approaches the milestone of being the oldest sitting president in U.S. history.
