The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Tuesday that it has imposed sanctions on four entities and four individuals, predominantly Colombians, for their involvement in supporting the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan. This includes activities such as child recruitment and actions that intensify the conflict.
The department highlighted that the violence perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces has significantly contributed to the escalation of the war and the destabilization of the region, creating conditions that facilitate the rise of terrorist organizations.
Furthermore, it stated that the Rapid Support Forces and their affiliates have committed grave violations against civilians, including the systematic killing of men and boys, as well as targeted assaults on women and girls involving rape and other forms of sexual violence.
The U.S. Treasury also noted that the Rapid Support Forces have seized control of the city of El Fasher with assistance from Colombian fighters, continuing to perpetrate atrocities against the local population.
