Ismat Ramadan, the director of the National Center for Curriculum Development at the Ministry of Education, announced on Thursday that the center has officially commenced the development of Kurdish language curricula for different educational levels. This initiative follows the formation of a specialized committee that includes linguistic and educational experts from various provinces.

Ramadan detailed that the preparation, approval, and printing of the curricula are expected to be finalized within six months, ensuring that they are ready for implementation at the start of the next academic year.

He noted that this initiative marks a significant milestone, as it is the first official effort by the ministry to implement the directives of Decree No. 13 for the year 2026, issued by President Ahmad al-Shara, which was enacted last Monday.

According to Ramadan, the committees are currently establishing general standards for the curricula, which will then be refined into specific standards for each educational level. Following this, the content will be prepared and sent to the General Printing Institution for distribution to relevant schools.

He emphasized that the new curricula will align with the national curriculum framework and will be based on established academic and scientific principles. The introduction of the Kurdish language in schools aims to promote cultural diversity while fostering national unity.

Ramadan clarified that the Kurdish language will be taught in both public and private schools located in regions where Kurdish citizens constitute a significant demographic, in coordination with provincial education directorates.
