The Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt announced on Sunday the official ban of the game Roblox. Essam El Amir, the Deputy Chairman of the Council, confirmed the decision during a Senate session, stating that they are coordinating with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to enforce the ban.

Egypt joins a growing list of countries that have taken similar actions, including Russia, China, Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Turkey, amid increasing concerns regarding the safety of minors on the platform.

* What is "Roblox"?

Launched in 2006 by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, "Roblox" is a gaming and creativity platform that allows users to explore thousands of mini-games or develop their own using the "Roblox Studio" tool.

Beyond gaming, the platform fosters a social environment where users can make friends, engage with game developers, and collaborate on new game projects, creating a dynamic virtual community.

* Key Statistics

Roblox boasts over 214 million monthly users and generates nearly $7 million in daily revenue.

On August 23, 2025, Roblox recorded its highest number of concurrent users, surpassing 47 million globally, according to the Rotrends website.

* Why is Roblox Popular?

As noted by PCMag, the appeal of "Roblox" lies in its ability to inspire creativity and imagination. Major brands such as Forever 21, Kellogg’s, Chipotle, and Sega have created their own experiences on the platform to engage with its extensive gaming audience.

* Safety Concerns

Despite its popularity, "Roblox" faces significant scrutiny regarding user safety, particularly for children and teenagers. The platform is currently embroiled in lawsuits in the United States, while European authorities are investigating potential risks for young users.

While "Roblox" provides opportunities for play, creativity, and social interaction, it also presents challenges for governments aiming to ensure a safe online environment for minors.
