Protests Erupt in Caracas Calling for Release of Political Prisoners

On Saturday, a group of relatives and supporters of Venezuelan opposition leaders gathered outside Helicoid Prison in Caracas, demanding the immediate release of political prisoners.
This demonstration comes as interim President Delcy Rodríguez faces mounting criticism regarding the slow pace of prisoner releases, despite a recent announcement of a significant number of releases.
Families and human rights organizations have expressed concern that many detainees have been imprisoned for months or years based on their political beliefs, and they find the current release process to be inadequate.
In parallel, Rodríguez has committed to closing Helicoid Prison, which has a history of human rights abuses, and transforming it into a cultural, social, and sports center for local communities and police forces.
The facility was originally a commercial complex before its conversion into a prison.
During the protest, minor clashes occurred between demonstrators and members of the Bolivarian National Police. Protesters displayed banners stating "Freedom for All," voicing their support for the National Amnesty Law and the urgent need for the release of all political prisoners.
This event highlights the increasing domestic and international pressure on the Venezuelan government to respect the rights of political detainees, coinciding with the administration's commitment to reform a facility that has long been associated with controversy and human rights violations.
