Lebanese singer Fadl Shaker appeared before the permanent military court on Thursday to address four security cases, which have resulted in absentia sentences ranging from five to fifteen years of hard labor.
The session, led by Brigadier General Waseem Fayyad, included Judge Nidal Al-Sha'ar, representing the Public Prosecutor, and Shaker's attorney, Amata Mubarak.
Closed Session Requested
As reported by the National News Agency of Lebanon, Shaker and his lawyer requested that the session be held behind closed doors, preventing access to journalists and non-designated attorneys. The session lasted approximately two and a half hours, during which Shaker was questioned regarding the four cases.
The court announced that witness hearings, including that of Ahmad Al-Assir, have been rescheduled for February 12.
Context of the Case
Fadl Shaker, recognized for his unique vocal talent, has been under scrutiny since 2013 when he was accused of involvement in armed activities during security incidents in the Sidon and Mount Lebanon regions, leading to his absentia sentences. In recent years, he resided in the Ain al-Hilweh camp before surrendering to Lebanese authorities to pursue his case in military court.
